Have you always wondered what it takes to care for the animals at the Aquarium? Work alongside our Husbandry team to prepare food, monitor water quality and observe animal feedings in this half-day behind the scenes adventure!

When: Saturday mornings from 8am until noon
Cost: $175 plus HST
*Annual pass holders save 20%

Must be 14 years or older to participate, limit of two (2) participants per time slot.

Aquarist for a Day Includes:

  • Admission to the Aquarium
  • Behind the Scenes tour of the Aquarium through animal care areas and filtration systems
  • Access to a change room
  • Souvenir t-shirt, water bottle and multi-tool
  • Light refreshment in the café

FAQS

When does my Aquarist for a Day happen?

Please refer to the confirmation email you received for the date and time of your Aquarist for a Day. Currently Aquarist for Day is only offered on Saturdays.

What should I wear?

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Rubber soled, closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Please also bring a bathing suit.

Where do we meet?

Please meet at the coat check area in the lobby at the start time indicated in your confirmation email.

Can I visit the Aquarium before our experience?

No, this experience begins before the Aquarium is open to the public. You can visit the Aquarium after completing the program.

How old do you have to be to participate?

Participants age 14 and up are welcome to take part in the experience.

How long does Aquarist for a Day take?

The entire Aquarist for a Day is 4 hours. This does not include time to visit all exhibits. Participants can visit the Aquarium after the program finishes.

Is Aquarist for a Day safe?

Yes, Aquarium staff will accompany participants at all times. Participants will have the opportunity to prepare food for our animals (including handling a knife), and observe various animal feedings. All participants will be required to sign a waiver prior to participating. (If you are under the age of 18 years old, a parent or guardian will be required to sign the waiver PRIOR to your participation in the program).

Do I have to be able to swim?

No, the Aquarist for a Day involves only entering shallow water.

Will I be able to feed the sharks/animals?

Only Aquarium husbandry staff members are permitted to feed our animals.

What is the Aquarist for a Day cancellation policy?

More than 7 days in the advance, full refund.
Less than 7 days, but more than 48 hours, 50% refund.
Less than 48 hours’ notice, no refund.

Please note we reserve the right to cancel this program at any time to ensure the health and/or safety of our animals.

How many people can participate at time?

Two (2) people can participate per timeslot.

Can I just show up at the Aquarium without pre- registering for Aquarist for a Day and still participate?

Preregistration is required. Walk-ups cannot be accommodated.

Can my family/friends watch me and take photos?

For the majority of the program you will be in behind the scenes areas not visible to the public.

Will other people be able to see me?

During the Eagle Ray enrichment, Aquarium guests will be able to watch.

Is the Aquarist for a Day accessible for those with disabilities?

Yes, however some modification may need to be made depending on the disability. Please speak with Aquarium staff prior to booking.

I have a shellfish allergy, will I be at risk of a reaction?

Shellfish are often fed to Aquarium animals. Depending on the severity of your allergy, you may be at risk.

Can I take my phone/camera with me?

No, all electronics will be required to be stored in a locker for the duration of the program.
